2010/11 Grass Roots Project
Part of West Lothian Council's public art strategy. One of four public artists chosen to create a unique piece of artwork for four West Lothian towns.
The piece titled 'Under the SKY TV' was created in response to local community workshops and site visits with residents of Boghall. This will be situated in Boghall near the drop-in and resource centre, and will be completed and installed for July 2011 and is a faithful reproduction in oak of the typical furniture found in a 1970s/80s living room.
It is essentially a comment on the modern phenomenon of our television saturated domestic culture. However, it is also intended to be surreal and comical. Set under the sky for a roof with distant views for wallpaper and grass substituting a carpet it reminds the viewer of how our world stretched much further than this familiar setting..
So much of our perception of this fast changing, technology driven world is governed by the television. Here we see time standing still as everything else changes around it.
